Michael Greene

A native of Alberta, Michael Greene holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Manitoba, and earned his law degree from the University of Calgary in 1982. He articled with the Alberta Court of Appeal and with a local law firm. He went on to spend 11 years with the firm of Dunphy Calvert before partnering with Michael Sherritt to form the legal team of Sherritt Greene.

Today, Michael Greene focuses his practice in the area of immigration law, assisting clients with all types of applications and challenges related to Canadian immigration law. He is passionate about achieving the best possible outcome for his clients, whether that means helping a company relocate foreign workers to Canada or helping a Canadian resident reunite a family by sponsoring loved ones who live abroad. He enjoys applying his expertise to help his clients achieve their goals, assisting at every stage from preparing applications and documentation to advocating for them at hearings, appeals, and litigation in court.

“I get excited about this,” he says. When asked what drew him to immigration law, he responds, “I love working with and for my clients and being able to help them move forward to greater opportunity in their lives.”

Michael is active in the Calgary legal community. He has worked with the Canadian Bar Association on both local and national levels, and served as the National Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Citizenship and Immigration Section from 2000-2001. He also served five terms as the Chairman of the Southern Alberta Immigration Lawyers Section.

Michael is also involved in immigration policy and legislative initiatives. He has consulted with the Minister of Immigration and the Department of Immigration regarding proposed policy changes, and has appeared before the committees of the Senate and House of Commons on matters related to immigration.

Michael also shares his years of knowledge through teaching. He is currently the session instructor of the Immigration and Refugee Law Course at the University of Calgary. He has co-chaired two national immigration conferences, along with numerous local and provincial conferences. He has served as a guest speaker for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Barreau du Quebec, and the National Continuing Legal Education Division of the CBA. He has also served as a legal instructor in university classrooms, and given lectures on legal matters in both professional and community settings.
