Immigration applications and visa forms can be long, confusing and full of jargon. So it is important to get information and advice from people who know the field inside and out - and this does not include your neighbour.

"There are lots of people out there in the community who are willing to give free legal advice - people who don't work in the business but maybe immigrated themselves," explains Greene. "In the worst case scenario, they tell someone to misrepresent on their application, to tell a lie, or leave out a fact."

Sometimes it's up to Sherritt Greene to pick up the pieces after a sloppy application has been rejected. "We often see people who come to us and their cases have been totally botched up by incompetent legal services or an immigration consultant," says Greene.

Greene cautions people to choose lawyers carefully, because the damage can be irreversible. "When you're looking for a lawyer, it's just not a case of 'well if they don't do a good job, I'll just go to someone else,'" says Greene. "In some cases a refusal can result in something that it is not possible to fix."

Sherritt Greene can be relied on for its specialized knowledge of immigration law. The firm routinely saves clients from the most common pitfalls - relying on bad advice, misinterpreting information and misunderstanding rules of eligibility.
