Biography

Paul Moreau can't remember ever not wanting to be a lawyer and single-mindedly pursued his goal. Originally, he thought he would practice in the area of Corporate/Commercial Law, but when he had the opportunity to explore Criminal Law, he knew he was where he wanted to be. When a job came open at the Crown Prosecutor's office, he applied and won the position along with the opportunity to devote every day to Criminal Law.

In his career, Moreau has been involved in many high-profile cases and is proud of the influence the judgments have had on changes and developments in the law. For nine years he was a volunteer instructor in the Alberta Bar Admission Course and he has done a quantity of work on behalf of the Law Society in both litigation and also in representing the Society and the interest of lawyers at seminars and conferences. He served two annual terms as President of the Alberta Crown Attorneys' Association and achieved improvements in working conditions for all Crown Prosecutors in Alberta.

Moreau has been lucky to be able to work with some extraordinary colleagues who mentored him and set high standards for him to strive for. Scott Newark's cross-examination style was a "revelation" to Moreau and had a "huge influence" on his courtroom style. At the Alberta Court of Appeal, he worked with Jack Watson, whose "judgements are renowned across Canada as examples of highly learned legal thinking." He also worked with Bart Rosborough who taught him "what it really meant to be diligent and careful about details." Working alongside these men influenced Moreau's working style and his commitment to high standards and quality service for his clients.
