Alison Pengelley

Alison Pengelley is a key member of the legal team at Galbraith Family Law. She worked as a paralegal for several years with a number of law firms, earning a bachelor’s degree in business management, before pursuing her law degree from the Osgoode Hall Law School.

Thanks to this experience, by the time Alison entered law school, she already had a focus in mind: family law. She had extensive experience in the field as a paralegal and a law student, but she also had a personal connection to this topic, due to her own separation and divorce.

While she was in law school, Alison was a leader of Pro Bono Students Canada; in this capacity, she recruited and trained more than 50 law students for the Family Law Project, through which young law students worked with litigants at Family Court, helping them draft documents and navigate the legal system. This invaluable leadership position allowed Alison the chance to work alongside judges, lawyers, and students. The experience eventually led to a Joint Articles of Clerkship, a secondment with Mr. Thomas Bastedo, and a teaching opportunity at the Osgoode Hall Law School.

Today, Alison’s goal as a family lawyer is to make efficient and effective use of the law to protect her clients and seek the best possible outcome for their needs during what is often a trying time in their lives. She understands the complex interplay of financial, emotional, and legal considerations involved in every divorce case. She assesses each unique situation, formulates a strategy for conflict resolution, and advocates passionately for each of her clients.

In addition to her regular legal practice, Alison has been active in her community when it comes to furthering access to justice. She served on the Board of Directors for a non-profit organization committed to the reduction of domestic violence through education, empowerment, and support. Alison has authored several articles that have been published by the Ontario Women’s Justice Network.

Alison is currently a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, as well as the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, the Women’s Law Association of Ontario, and the Simcoe County Family Law Association.
