Allison McAlpine

Since her childhood in Orillia, Ontario, Allison McAlpine always dreamed of becoming a lawyer. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology, with honours, from Queen’s University, and then remained at Queen’s to attend law school. While she was a student, she worked for a busy real estate firm, and developed the invaluable skill of managing a high-volume caseload while maintaining impeccable quality of work and attention to detail.

After graduating from law school, Allison articled and continued working as a legal associate for a boutique law firm in Waterloo, Ontario. She enjoyed a wide and varied practice that included general civil litigation, employment law, criminal law, real estate law, construction liens, and the drafting of wills. Soon, however, she began to focus her practice on family law, and garnered extensive experience in negotiating separation agreements and handling family law-related litigation. During her legal work in Waterloo, Allison was involved in four appellate cases and practiced before the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

In March of 2012, Allison was happy return to Simcoe County and join the legal team at the Galbraith Family Law, where she now assists clients with all types of family law matters as well as drafting of wills and powers of attorney. She understands that family law matters can have lasting effects on her clients’ lives, and is committed to providing excellent advice and steady guidance on such complex issues as property division, child custody and access, and many other matters. Allison explores ways to resolve family matters outside a courtroom (often through negotiation, collaborative practice, and cooperation), and tries to help clients avoid stressful and expensive litigation whenever possible.

When not practicing law, Allison McAlpine enjoys reading, attending live music events, and constantly learning new things (such as her newest pastime, playing the guitar). She also enjoys road trips to explore the beauty and adventure of Canada.
