Market Leadership

Engel isn't afraid to admit that his firm's fees are at the high end of the market, because they reflect the value that Engel & Lewandowski provide.

"I don't just win some cases, I win most of my cases," he says. If he does lose, it's never a shock to clients, because Engel is clear about their chances from day one. “I usually leave a client feeling very satisfied and well represented, whether they win or not," he explains. He has also earned the respect of his colleagues, handling high-profile cases such as Mohamed Harkat, an alleged al-Qaeda terrorist, and drafting a factum that is used as an example by the Criminal Lawyers Association and Legal Aid.

He has chaired an annual criminal law conference, contributes articles to it, and teaches criminal law, legal research and regulatory law as a sessional lecturer at Ottawa's Algonquin College.
